Episode 22
Descent into the Flame-Root
Mount Nyomi trembles as Rudolph, Sunny, Kito, and Elder Amirah descend through a gate sealed in molten bronze—a gate that only responds to the fire within the blood.
Rudolph places his hand on the seal.
The memories of Major, his father, flood him. Not just of battle, but of poetry, of calloused hands shaping toys for his children, of whispered prayers in a language almost lost.
The seal melts.
The tunnels pulse with forgotten rhythm—the sound of creation humming itself back into being.
Kito’s eyes glow blue-white.
“The Wordsmith isn’t sleeping,” he murmurs.
“She’s remembering.”
The Echo-Walkers Strike
Just before the inner sanctum is reached, they are ambushed by three Echo-Walkers, masked warriors who wear the faces of lost loved ones, twisted by Tzel’el to break hearts.
- One wears Lexi’s smile, poisoned with blame
- One wears Major’s voice, turned cruel
- One wears Minerva’s stare, hollow and cold
Sunny weeps. Kito growls. Elder Amirah falters.
But Rudolph steps forward and speaks a Word from the Dreamforge:
“You do not hold the dead. You only wear their shape.”
He lifts his hammer, forged from Reubenite steel and Simeonite ash.
One by one, the Echo-Walkers dissolve—not slain, but released.
The Awakening
They reach the Heartcore—a chamber of living fire and sound. Suspended within it is the Wordsmith, bound in coils of echo-metal and silence threads. She is enormous—part human, part flame, part word.
Her eyes open slowly, voice ancient and layered:
“Who speaks the Word now?”
Rudolph kneels.
“I am Rudolph, son of Major and Lexi.
Grandson of Minerva.
Guardian of the Covenant.
And I have not come to command.
I have come to remember.”
The Wordsmith stirs.
Chains melt.
Scripture ignites.
And from her chest, she removes a single, glowing brand—the First Rune, older than time, older than tribe.
She hands it to Rudolph.
“Speak it when the world begins to shatter.”
What Has Been Gained:
- The Rune of Becoming – A living glyph that can seal Echoes, mend sanctuaries, and even remake memory
- The Song of the Wordsmith – A code hidden in rhythm, now awakened, that can activate dormant Tribe sanctuaries remotely
- A Fire Signal – Launched from Mount Nyomi, it calls all remaining sanctuary-keepers to arms or alliance
Tzel’el sees the flame rise.
He knows now: the Circle has remembered its true name.
And so he marches toward the Vault of Benjamin—to seize the Final Word before it can be reforged.
To be continued. . .
